For those who read my last piece - ‘The Village Far West’ - who don’t know about curachs, here are a couple of shots of the inside of the last one I built. They give an idea of the detailing of the Kerry version of the curach.

A recent experiment, filmed on "Britain's Ancient Capital: Secrets of Orkney", https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08819tl, shows the construction of an Orkney one, using tools of the time, and with hides covering the curach. A rowing crew managed to get it safely across the Pentland Firth. HOW those Neolithic souls got their cattle into them and over such a tide race beggars belief - but they did.
